The drive that became the best part of her week
I started driving her to physio appointments about eight months ago. Purely practical — she can't drive since her surgery, and public transport from her place takes over an hour each way with two changes.
What I didn't expect was how much the drive itself would matter. Twenty minutes each way, twice a week, turned into the most consistent conversation in her week — about her garden, her grandkids, whatever she's reading.
She told me recently that she looks forward to the drive more than the physio. I think that's fairly common and it's worth saying out loud: transport support isn't just logistics, it's often the most social part of someone's week.
